Abstract: A refined corn gluten contg. 94.5% dry matter and 70.5% protein in the dry matter was hydrolyzed for 7 hrs. at the boiling point with 10-fold excess 8N H2SO4, and the ppt. sepd. by filtration. The pH of the filtrate was adjusted to 5.7 (isoelectric point of tyrosine) with satd. Ba(OH)2 and cryst. tyrosine isolated. The pH of the filtrate was adjusted to 5.9 (isoelectric point of leucine) and concd. at 65-75° to 1/5 of the original vol. The isolated crystals contained the leucine as well as glutamic and aspartic acids and alanine.
