The sulfitation of alkali solutions of sodium sulfide
V. Kubelka

Abstract: The sulfitation of Na2S with gaseous SO2 is greatly dependent on the phys. conditions during absorption. The most important changeable factors are the velocity and the concn. of the sulfitation gas and the temp. and concn. of the soln. The conditions of the reaction can be so varied that mainly Na2S2O3 is formed, or the formation of Na2S2O3 can be depressed so that more Na2SO3 can be formed. A suitable tech. soln. of the 2nd reaction might simplify the regeneration of chemicals in the production of hemicellulose by a neutral Na2SO3. The exptl. results are shown graphically and emphasize the danger of erroneous calcns. in the case of complicated solns.
