Abstract: 3-Acetyl-1-ethyl-4-hydroxyquinolin-2(1H)-one and 1-ethyl-4-hydroxyquinolin-2(1H)-one were prepared and subjected to several and different chemical transformations to give novel heterocyclically 3-substituted quinolinone derivatives of expected important biological activity. So the latter compounds were used to obtain β-keto ester and α, β-unsaturated carbonylquinolinones which were used as alternate precursors to produce many new five-membered heterocyclic as pyrazolyl, isoxazolyl as substituents to the quinolinone moiety. Al1 the structures of the new products were identified on the basis of their chemical behaviour, elemental and spectral analyses.
