Abstract: The stability constants of binary and ternary complexes of Cd(ll) with glutamic acid (Glu) or histidine (His) as a primary ligand and imipramine (lmip) as a secondary one have been determined polarographically. The reduction process of both simple and mixed systems is reversible and diffusion-controlled. For the system Cd-Glu-lmip, two mixed complexes were formed: Cd(Glu)(lmip)2 and Cd(Glu)2(lmip) with stabilities log {β12} = 11.45 and log {β21} = 10.26, respectively. But the system Cd-His-lmip forms three mixed complexes, Cd(His)(lmip), Cd(His)(lmip)2, and Cd(His)2(lmip). The calculated stability constants of these complexes are log {β11} = 7.17, log {β12} = 10.39, and log{β21} = 9.7, respectively.
