 Semisynthetic analogs of Buxus alkaloids

Abstract: 3 ß-Acetoxy-20-oxopregna-5,16-diene reacted with methyl nitroacetate in the presence of acetic acid and ammonium acetate to afford 3ß-acetoxy-16α-(1 -nitro-1 -methoxycarbonylmethyl)-20-oxopregn-5-ene, 3ß-acetoxy-16α-nitromethyl-20-oxopregn-5-ene, (24S)-3ß-acetoxy-22-aza-23-oxo-24-nitro-16,24-cyclochola-5,17-diene, and 3ß-acetoxy-22-aza-23-hydroxy-24-nitro-16,24-cyclochola-5,17,22,24-tetraene. The latter originated from the former in the presence of alumina.
