Abstract: The temperature stability of natural mordenite (Žďár by Stará Рака,
Bohemia) was studied in the temperature range 20 °C—1000°C both in
dynamic regime in air (DTA, TG) and in isothermal regime in vacuo. The
products of decomposition were investigated by the X-ray powder method
and infrared absorption spectroscopy. The scheme of the decomposition of
mordenite may be written as follows
mordenite→ metamordenite → mordenite + amorphous phase →anorthite + Si02→ mordenite + amorphous phase +
• anorthite + Si02 + amorphous phase
Over the temperature of 510 °C, the remaining water forms the structural
hydroxyl groups which persist up to the highest temperatures.
