Preparation of 2,3-di-O-methylglyceraldehyde and its β-elimination product 2-methoxypropenal

Abstract: 2,3-Di-O-methylglyceraldehyde (I) was prepd. both from racemic glyceraldehyde and its enantiomers through di-Me acetal and its di-O-Me deriv. I undergoes β-elimination in alkali medium to give 2-methoxypropenal.
