Isolation and determination of maltooligosaccharides

Abstract: Maltooligosaccharides (up to maltooctaose) were converted to the corresponding 4-nitrophenylhydrazones and sepd. by paper chromatog. A method of detn. of maltooligosaccharides in mixts. was elaborated which includes elution of the sepd. 4-nitrophenylhydrazones from the paper and their spectrophotometric measurement. The anal. procedure was employed for assays of amylolytic activities in urine of healthy persons and patients with acute pancreatitis. Isolation of [U-¹⁴C]maltooligosaccharides from a [U-¹⁴C]starch hydrolyzate via 4-nitrophenylhydrazones is also described.
