Effect of solvation upon the acid-base properties and reduction by polarography of thioamides

Abstract:  The pK values of thioamides in water and water—ethanol mixtures have been determined, and the effect of substituents upon their reduction by polaro­graphy has been studied. The observed anomalies are interpreted in terms of the hydrogen bonds between the NH group and the solvent, the formation of which was proved by i.r. spectroscopy.
