Alternative syntheses of methylated sugars. XV. Chemical synthesis of methyl β-xylobioside

Abstract: Condensation of 2,3,4-tri-O-acetyl-1-bromo-1-deoxy-α-D-xylopyranose with Me 2,3-anhydro-β-D-ribopyranoside afforded Me 2,3-anhydro-4-O-(2,3,4-tri-O-acetyl-β-D-xylopyranosyl)-β-D-ribopyranoside. Its deacetylation followed by treatment with aq. KOH gave Me β-xylobioside.
