Ion exchange chromatography of organic acids

Abstract:  The Separation of the C₁ —С₆ monocarboxylic and C₂ — C₇ dicarboxylic organic aliphatic acids on strongly acidic styrene-divinylbenzene cation exchangers Dowex 50W by the method of ion exclusion is described. The effect of crosslinking of the used cation exchangers on the relationship between the logarithm of volume partition coefficients and the molecular weight of the studied acids has been investigated. Based on thermodynamic considerations, the theoretical equation of the dependence of log K_v on molecular weight of the chromatographed substances derived by Hjertén has been adjusted.
