Abstract: The effect of LiF, LiOH, and Li2CO3 on the stability of tricalcium silicate
was investigated at 1450°C. It was found by chemical analysis, X-ray phase
analysis, and infrared spectral analysis that an addition of LiF stabilized
tricalcium silicate while an addition of LiOH and Li2CO3 induced the decomposition
of tricalcium silicate into dicalcium silicate and CaO. The
opposite views concerning the intensifying effect of lithium appearing in
literature may be due to the different effect of lithium salts with different anions.
