Polarographic study of some 2-acyl derivatives of 1,3-indandione

Abstract: Polarographic investigation of 2-acetyl-, 2-propionyl- and 2-benzoylindan-1,3-dione was carried out. Using 2-phenylindan-l,3-dione and ninhydrine as substances whose mechanism of Polarographie reduction is explained in literature, we identified the Polarographie waves. On the basis of additional coulometric measurements of the number of electrones participating in the cathodic reduction, the Polarographie reduction of 2-acyl derivatives of indan-1,3-dione in acidic and neutral medium was interpreted. With the aid of comparison of Polarographie reductions of 2-acetylindan-1,3-dione and 2-benzoylindan-1,3-dione and on the basis of comparison with, the reduction of enolate anions of 2-acyl derivatives of indan-1,3-dione in basic medium was attempted.
