Isothiocyanates. XXII. Synthesis of mono- and diisothiocyanate derivatives of diphenyl sulfide, diphenyl sulfoxide, and diphenyl sulfone

Abstract: The paper deals with the synthesis of mono- and diisofchiocyanate derivatives of diphenylsulphide, diphenylsulphoxide and diphenylsulphone, respectively. All isothiocyanates reported were prepared by the thiophosgene method through tli3 corresponding amines, with the yield in the range of 34—57 %. A part of the compounds synthetised has been already described in the literature. Besides three newly synthetised isothiocyanates are reported. The frequencies of the NCS group of the compounds in question have been measured. The results suggest that inductive effects of the substituents containing the sulphur atom largely control the variation of v_as NCS , and v_s NCS , respectively.
