Furan derivatives. XII. Preparation and absorption spectra of [5-(2-nitrophenyl)-2-furfurylidene]benzoylhydrazones

Abstract: By condensation of 5-(2-nitrophenyl)-2-furaldehyde with monosubstituted benzenecarboxylic acid hydrazides in ethanol a group of the new hydrazones was prepared: [5-(2-nitrophenyl)- 2-furfurylidene]benzoylhydrazone; [5-(2-nitrophenyl)-2-furfurylidene]-4'-methylbenzoylhydrazone; [5-(2-nitrophenyl)-2-furfurylidene]-4/-hydroxybenzoylhydrazone; [5-(2-nitrophenyl)-2-furfurylidene]-2/-hydroxybenzoylhydrazone; [5-(2-nitrophenyl)-2-furfurylidene]-4/-chlorobenzoylhydrazone; [5-(2-nitrophenyl)-2-furfurylidene]-4'-bromobenzoylhydrazone; [5-(2-nitrophenyl)-2-furfurylidene]-4'-iodobenzoylhydrazone; [5-(2-nitrophenyl)-2-furfurylidene]-4'-nitrobenzoylhydrazone. The synthesis of the title compounds is described and their absorption spectra are interpreted. The ultra-violet and infra-red spectral data of the compounds synthetised were compared with those of [5-(3-nitrophenyl)-2-furfurylidene]benzoylhydrazones and [o-(4-nitrophenyl)-2-fitrfurylidene]benzoylhydrazones described previously in this journal.
