Abstract: Polarographic detns. of complex consts. of the meso (I) and racemic (II) forms of 2,3-diaminobutane with Hg2+ were described. The molar ratio of Hg2+ to the ligand is 1:2. By the potentiometric methods, the dissocn. consts. are: for I pK1 6.93 and pK2 10.25; for II pK1 6.91 and pK2 10.19. These are practically the same for I and II. The log KHgX2, were calcd. as 25.2 for I and 23.7 for II. For the complex 1,3-diaminopropanol with Hg2+, pK1 7.74 and pK2 9.72. The results were compared with the meso and racemic forms of 2,3-diaminobutane-N,N,N',N'-tetraacetic acid (III). The molar ratio of Hg2+ to III is 1:1. The values for III are: for the meso form, log KHgX2 = 20.33, for the racemic form 22.19 (cor.), pK1 1.77, pK2 2.31, pK3 6.26, and pK4 11.1 for the meso-form, and pK2 2.65, pK2 3.66, pK3 6.13, and pK4 11.5 for the racemic form. The meso form is more stable in 2,3-diaminobutane, while the racemic form is more stable in III.
