Phase diagram in the NaF-LiF-AlF3-Al2O3 system. I. System NaF-LiF

Abstract: Thermal analysis was used to study the system NaF-LiF, and the phase diagram was constructed. This system was a eutectie at 39.6 mole % NaF and 60.4 mole % LiF and 659 ± 2°. The exptl. results were in good agreement with the calcd. values. On the NaF-rich side in the phase diagram, there is an area of solid solns. of LiF in the NaF. The boundary concn. LiF in the solid soln. at the temp. of the eutectic crystn. is approx. 4.0 mole %. The existence of the solid solns. and the boundary LiF concn. was proven by the x-ray phase analyses. The solid soln. as well as NaF and LiF crystd. in the cubic system. Because the lattice consts. reported in the literature vary, these values were detd. on the basis of the diffraction lines of pure Si: NaF a = 4.622 ± 0.002 A., LiF a = 4.018 ± 0.002 A. The lattice const. of the solid soln. in the area 0-4.0% LiF gradually decreases from the 4.622 + 0.002 to 4.607 ± 0.002 A. In calcg. the lattice const. of LiF it was detd. that in the area 94-8 mole % LiF, the value is higher than that corresponding to pure LiF and that the crystals have characteristic light-green color.
