Abstract: cf. C.A. 51, 8037e. Metals of group VIII (Fe, Co, Ni) (I) in amts. of about 0.1% racemize l-phenylacetylcarbinol (II). It was impossible to purify tech. pure II by distn. under low pressure if II was prepd. in app. contg. I. The addn. of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid in the amts. equal to I present in II inhibited the racemization even at higher temps. so that distn. is possible.
