Abstract: cf. C.A. 50, 11273f. The effect of H₂O, BzH, Al(OH)₃, Fe(OH)₃, and FeCl₃.6H₂O, individually and in combination, on the optical rotation of L-phenylacetylcarbinol (I) in air and CO₂ was studied. The deactivation of optical rotation in I is due to the formation of an Fe³⁺ complex sol. in I. Al³⁺ does not affect the optical rotation of I.
