Steroid hydrazones and formazyl compounds

Abstract: The following aldehyde cholylhydrazones or bis(cholylhydrazones) were prepd.: formaldehyde, C₂₅H₄₂O₄N₂, m. 256-8°; phenylacetaldehyde m. 151-2°; glyoxal (dihydrazone), m. 276°; butyraldehyde, m. 117°; benzaldehyde, m. 151°; and furfural m. 143°. From these compds. were prepd. N-cholyl-N'-phenylformazan, C₃₁H₄₆O₄N₄, m. 47°, and the following C-substituted derivs.: benzyl, liquid; propyl, liquid; phenyl, m. 111°; (2-furyl) (I), m. 58°. Bis(N-cholyl-N'-phenylformazan) (II), C₆₂H₉₀O₈N_8, m. 53°. These formazans give color reactions with H₂SO₄, and I and II give logarithmic extinction curves on spectral analysis.
