The solubility of strychnine and brucine in aqueous solutions of sodium salicylate

Abstract: Brucine is very sol. in aq. solns. of Na salicylate owing to the formation of H bridges, while trychnine is very little sol. This property can be used in the sepn. and purification of these two alkaloids. Strychnine, m. 268-9°, was purified by this method to a sharp m.p. of 271°.
