Precipitation of organic substances from sulfite waste liquors

Abstract: Org. substances in sulfite waste liquors are coagulated by heating with H₂SO₄ (14.6 g. per l.; 1 hr. at 150°). HCl, HNO₃, and H₂C₂O₄ are less effective, and H₃PO₄, H₃BO₃, H₂SiF₆, HCO₂H, AcOH, and tartaric acid are without effect. Coagulation is accelerated by Al³⁺, Cr³⁺, and Sn²⁺, and retarded by SO₃^2-. Concn. of the liquors facilitates coagulation.
