Abstract: Kinetics of the addn. reaction of ethylene oxide with H2S in the mole ratio 2:1 in thiodiglycol was studied at the low initial pressure of 4 atm. and at 15-40° and 30-50°. At 15, 20, 30, and 40°, the inhibition periods for 23, 17.7, and 2.6 min. were detd. The relation of the velocity const. k(min.-1) on the reaction temp. T(°K.) is linear according to Arrhenius equation and can be expressed by: log k = 16.079 - 22.878/4.57T. The activation energy has a value 22.9 ± 1 kcal./mole. At temps. 30, 40, 46, and 50°, no inhibition periods were detected. The relation of the velocity const. on the temp. is also linear according to Arrhenius equation and it can be expressed by: log k = 3.072 - 9313.7/4.57T. The activation energy was increased more than 2 fold and the values of velocity consts. were increased indicating a higher reactivity of H2S.
