The reaction of selenium trioxide with potassium chloride and bromide

Abstract: The reaction of SeO3 with KCl and KBr at temps. above the m.p. of SeO3 were studied. In the system SeO3 -KCl, K2Se2O7 is formed according to the reaction 3SeO3 + 2KCl = K2Se2O7 + SeO2 + Cl2. In the system SeO3 - KBr, K2SeO4 is formed according to the reaction 2SeO3 + 2KBr = K2SeO4 + SeO2 + Br2.
