Abstract: The inside diam. of the development chamber was varied from 1 to 16 mm. in the sepn. of the following mixts. by thin-layer chromatography: (1) an ext. of barley shoots, for the sepn. of chlorophyl and carotenoids in leaf pigment with a largely non-polar solvent (benzene-iso-PrOH-H2O); (2) a mixt. of butter yellow, Sudan I, and Sudan III with benzene; (3) a mixt. of beef-brain lipids (glycerides, cerebrosides, sulfatides, cephalins, lecithins, and sphingomyelins) with a largely polar solvent. The inside diam. had no effect on development with benzene. Inside diams. of 1 and 16 mm. are preferable for largely nonpolar and largely polar solvents, resp.
