Tetravinylsilane

Abstract: A statistical analysis was applied to find the most suitable conditions for the lab. prepn. of tetravinylsilane (I) by Wurtz synthesis. The most critical conditions affecting the final yield are the diln. of the reaction mixt. with ether and the rate of influx of the vinyl chloride. Optimum conditions producing 75% yield I were: 50 g./hr. vinyl chloride, 14 ml. AcOEt, 184.7 g. SiCl₄, 200 g. Na, 800 ml. ether, and a reaction time of 6-7 hrs. at the boiling point of the mixt.
