The reaction of 1-chloro-6,7-dimethoxyisoquinoline with hydrazine hydrate

Abstract: 6,7-Dimethoxyquinoline was formed exclusively by heating 1-chloro-6,7-dimethoxyisoquinoline with N₂H₄.H₂O either 6 hrs. in autoclave at 100 to 120° or 12 hrs. in water bath at 80°, m. 93-4° (ether); HCl salt m. 216-17° (decompn.) (EtOH); picrate m. 225-6° (decompn.) (EtOH); chloroplatinate m. 224° (decompn.) (EtOH).
