Abstract: A method for the sepn. of prelimed mud is described. Very good sedimentation and filtration characteristics of muddy particles are obtained at the total lime consumption of 0.45 g. CaO/100 ml. of the diffusion juice, so that it is possible to sep. the prelimed mud by decantation and vacuum filtration. This method is a combination of the progressive D-V (DedekVas´atko) preliming by the addn. of 0.25 g. CaO/100 ml. of juice at 85° and of simultaneous liming and satn. (carbonatation) at the alky. of the 2nd satn. (0.02% CaO) with the addnl. 0.20 g. CaO/100 ml. consumption. The sepd. prelimed mud contains 3 times more of the raw protein, and of other org. matter including P2O5 and 70% of ash (mostly CaCO3), than the mud of the first satn. Its saponin content is less than 0.1% based on the dry matter and can be utilized in animal feeding. After prelimed mud sepn. the juice is further purified with lime and CO2 with the total of about 1% CaO consumption. This method is especially suitable in conjunction with the use of ion exchangers, where, with the small addn. of lime (0.45 g. CaO/100 ml.), most of the colloids causing difficulties are eliminated.
