Derivatives of ferrocene. I. The synthesis from acetylferrocene

Abstract: New derivs. of ferrocene (I) were prepd. by aldol condensation of acetylferrocene (II) with furfural, piperonal, o-nitro-, m-nitro-, p-nitrobenzaldehyde, and o-chlorobenzaldehyde (substituent on II, mol. wt., m.p., and % yield given): furfurylidene, 306.16, 154-5°, 58; piperonylidene, 360.20, 169-70° , 37; from I (same data): o-nitrocinnamoyl, 359.171, 168-72°, 89; m-nitrocinnamoyl, 359.171, 172-3°, 81; p-nitrocinnamoyl, 359.171, 198°, 96, and o-chlorocinnamoyl, 348.020, 116-18° 76. The effect of the presence and the character of the R in compds. of the formula C5H5FeC5H4COCH:CHR, on the degree of the conjugation in the whole mol. system was studied by infrared spectroscopy. 8 graphs.
