Chemistry of cyclic α,α'-hydroxymethylated ketones and alcohols I. 2,2,5,5-Tetramethylolcyclopentane and some of its derivatives

Abstract: The method for prepn. of 2,2,5,5-tetramethylolcyclopentane (I), m. 143°, was shortened and the yield increased to 90-5%. p-O₂NC₆H₄CO deriv. of I, m. 199°, yield 95%, was prepd. and by substitution of the OH groups, the tetra-Cl deriv., m. 71.5°, yield 60%, the tetra-Br deriv., m. 91.5°, yield 32%, and tetra-I deriv., m. 115°, yield 95%.
