Abstract: α-Naphthyl- (I) and β-naphthylisothiocyanate (II), insol. in H2O, were detd. polarographically in 56% CH3OH, 0.23N in NaBr, where I gives a cathodic wave at π1/2 = -1.07 v., and II at π1/2 = -1.04 v. Concn. of CH3OH and NaBr affected the occurrence of the reaction, the shape and the height of the wave, and the half-wave potential. In dil. CH3OH the reduction is diffusion-controlled. Brucine (2% in CH3OH) was used to suppress maxima.
