The synthesis of dl-1-(4-pyridyl)- (I) and dl-1-(4-piperidyl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-6,7-dimethoxyisoquinoline (II) from the corresponding amide according to the Bischler-Napieralski reaction and subsequent hydrogenation is described.
