Novel Trisubstituted Ethylenes and Their Reactions with Nucleophiles

Abstract: The preparation of a β-keto sulfone, in particular (phenylsulfonyl)-(2-thienylcarbonyl)methane which was further utilized in condensation reactions with 5-X-2-furancarbaldehydes is described. Reactions of 1-(5-X-2-furyl)-2-(phenylsulfonyl)-2-(thienylcarbonyl)ethylenes formed with nucleophiles were studied. The structure of the prepared derivatives was confirmed by IR, UV, 1H  NMR and in some instances also by ¹³C  NMR spectra.
