Abstract: A paper chromatographic separation of Cr, Mn, Co, Fe and Ni using a double run development
in two solvent systems was developed. One strip of paper was developed with
solvent system pyridine — water (60 : 40) and after complete pyridine removal in the
opposite direction with acetone—7 N-HC1 (90 : 10). Optimal distances of chromatographic
spots for three possible configurations were computed for given total lenght of run. The
validity of the method was proved by separation of radioisotopes 51Cr, 64Mn, 60Co, 69Fe and
NiII . and it was found suitable for separation and quantitative determination of these radioisotopes
with carriers or carrier-free respectively. The advantage of the presented procedure
is in the separation of Cr, Mn, Co, Fe, and Ni on one paper strip suitable for radiometric
evaluation.
