 On solid solutions in the system LiF—Na₃AlF₆

Abstract: The quasi-binary system LiF-Na₃AlF₆ has been studied by using thermal and x-ray phase anal. It has been found that there is a eutectic point at LiF 85.0 ± 1, Na₃AlF₆ 15.0 ± 1 mole %, and 696 ± 1° in the system. On the side of Na₃AlF₆ there is a narrow region of limited solid solns. contg. ≤6 mole % LiF at the eutectic temp. The results are consistent with the conclusions which follow from the thermodn. anal. of the course of liquidus curve of Na₃AlF₆ in the vicinity of the temp. of fusion of pure cryolite in this system.
