Determination of ¹³¹I by an extraction method

Abstract: ¹³¹I is detd. by extn. of I2 by CCl₄, followed by pptn. of the reextd. iodide as AgI and its dissoln. in NaCN. With various combinations of Cl^-, Br^-, SO₄^2-, IO₃^-, IO₄^-, and SiO₃^2- recoveries are always >93%. It is possible to det. 10^-11 c./l. of ¹³¹I. The permissible concn. of ¹³¹I in drinking H₂O, 6 × 10^-10 c./l., can be detd. with this method.
